ALEF Selects Its Fifteenth Class of Fellows
The Appalachian Leadership and Education Foundation (ALEF) has completed its selection process for the 2020 ALEF Oscar Class. This is the fifteenth year that ALEF has put together a group of young men and women from West Virginia who have extraordinary leadership, academic, and social skills and who have great potential to be the leaders in our communities, in government, and in our businesses. Each new Fellow exhibits the core values ALEF espouses – integrity, excellence, and service.

Elaina Bailey is from Shepherdstown, WV and attended Jefferson High School. She attends Shepherd University and majors in Nursing. Lainey was very active in community service and participated in numerous social and academic activities in high school. She had outstanding grades and was selected for various academic honors.
Mackenzie Barr is from Morgantown, WV. She graduated from Wahama High School and is attending West Virginia University. Her major is Exercise Physiology. She has excellent grades. Kenzie has received numerous awards in both high school and in college. She continues to be very active in many campus organizations.
Madison Lee-Faith Blankenship graduated from River View High School and attends Concord University. She is from Mohawk, WV and majors in Biology. Mouse was captain of her school’s basketball, softball, and volleyball teams. She was also active in many other high school activities – including the National Honor Society. She had excellent grades.
Julianna Addair Brown is from Jesse, WV and attended Westside High School. She attends Concord University and majors in Psychology. She was very involved in numerous community service and high school activities – president of Hi-Y and a member of the National Honor Society as examples. Julie had extraordinary grades.
Trace Clark graduated from Mingo Central High School and is from Delbarton, WV. He attends Marshall University and majors in Biology. Trace was number one academically in his class and a member of numerous high school activities including the National Honor Society and Student Government. He won numerous academic awards and was active in many community service events.
Britany Cochran is from Brenton, WV and graduated from Westside High School. She is attending Concord University and majoring in Elementary Education. She was very active in high school as a member of the National Honor Society, the Student Council, and as Captain of both the Cross Country Team and the Track and Field Team. Britany had outstanding grades in high school and has continued to do so in college. She participates in numerous community service activities.
Molly Cook is from Pineville, WV and attended Westside High School. She attends Concord University and majors in Secondary Education. Molly had outstanding grades. She was president of the Student Council and captain of the tennis team. She was a member of the National Honor Society and numerous other social and academic organizations. She was also very active in many community service events.
Max Farmerie is from Morgantown, WV and is enrolled at West Virginia University. He is majoring in Environmental Geoscience. Max is also enrolled in the Air Force Reserve Officer’s Training Program. He was active in numerous organizations and activities in high school. He has excellent grades.
Sara Fortune graduated from Logan High School and attends Marshall University. She is from Logan, WV and majors in Criminal Justice. She has an extraordinary record and graduated number two in her class. Sara was president of her senior class and was a member of the National Honor Society and numerous other honors programs. She was very active in community service.
Madison Freeman is from Milton, WV and graduated from Cabell Midland High School. She attends Marshall University and is undecided about a major. She was very active in community service events and high school organizations including the National Honor Society, the Beta Club, and the Key Club. Madison had excellent grades.
Morgan Freeman attends Marshall University and majors in Biology. She graduated from Cabell Midland High School and is from Milton, WV. She has excellent grades and was very active in high school organizations including band, Key Club, Beta Club, and the National Honor Society. Morgan also participated in numerous community service activities.
Michael-Paul Hare is from Ikes Fork, WV and graduated from River View High School. He has excellent grades and was active in many community service events. Michael was a student athlete and was a member of numerous high school organizations to including the National Honor Society. He attends Concord University and majors in Biology.
Amy Hughes is from Martinsburg, WV and graduated from Spring Mills High School. She attends Shepherd University and majors in Chemistry. She was President of the Science Club and President of the Science National Honors Society, a member of the National Honor Society and the Student Council. She had outstanding grades in high school and has superb grades in college. Amy continues to participate in multiple community service activities.
Dayton Miller is attending Shepherd University and majoring in Biology. He's from Wardensville, West Virginia and graduated from East Hardy High School. Dayton is a 4.00 student and deeply engaged in emergency medical services. He has received awards and is active in community service.
Kenzie Scott attends Marshall University and is majoring in Biomechanics. She is from Mount Gay, WV and graduateLd from ogan High School. In high school, Kenzie was Captain of the Tennis Team, the Volleyball Team, President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletics, a member of the Student Council, the Beta Club, and the National Honor Society. She had outstanding grades in high school and continues to do so in college. Kenzie continues to participate in numerous community service activities.
